A Stony River man died Monday when he and another were thrown from their boat in the Kuskokwim River, Alaska State Troopers said.

Sinka Crane, 70, of Stony River, went under the turbulent waters and did not come up after their boat hit a log in the river, the report said. The other man swam to shore. The men were about 17 miles upriver from the village of Stony River. Troopers found Crane's body face down a quarter-mile downstream. His body was sent to Anchorage for an autopsy, troopers said.
